The Tax Man Cometh

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Today is the dreadful tax day here in the good old USA. The day where the government takes from the people to fund its ever growing and bloated belly. The income tax and the wealth of all the taxes we pay are the biggest drag on our economy. While the current administration is out trying to spend all of our great-grandkids money, they should be looking at how to reduce and eliminate taxes. Jim DeMint, senator from SC, posted a link to this article on Twitter (yes, Sen. DeMint is on Twitter and he is a Republican).

The article points out how so many of the items we buy are taxed to the hilt through all the various taxes. Such as, “cost of sales taxes, corporate income taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, capital gains taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, workmen’s compensation taxes, and other payments businesses must make to federal, state and local governments.” This points to a greater problem of our government trying to control what we can and can’t do. Through clever taxation, deductions and credits, the lawmakers can effectively cause the masses to act in ways that they see fit. The argument is always made that “it’s good for you anyway” and people are content to look the other way because it’s always someone else who is getting the raw deal. We cannot afford to let our freedoms be eroded away. You may not like smoking, firearms, alcohol, soda, fast food or travel, but sooner or later they will come after something you are involved in.  We need to pressure our representatives to quit passing invasive laws and roll back existing ones. Tell your congressmen and senators to support the Fair Tax and to quit spending money we don’t have. Speak out about the secretive and destructive Federal Reserve Bank.  It’s a long hard fight, but it is a fight that must be fought and the price is great if we lose.

Speak out, don’t back down, and live with personal responsibility and integrity.

But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever. -John Adams, letter to Abigail Adams, July 17, 1775
